Static Line
Static Line was a (more or less) monthly, text-only magazine about the music and demo scenes. It issued in the years 1998-2004. 52 issues were made. The first 44 issues were edited by Coplan of Immortal Coil (later a member of Fulcrum), who had previously been a regular contributor to the music-related TraxWeekly newsletter, the other eight issues by Ciaran Hamilton and Ben Collver.
The sizes of the issues ranged from about 24 kbytes to approximately 143 kbytes. In every issue there was a review of a new music file ("In Tune"). Other regular columns that could be found in most of the issues were "Screen Lit Vertigo" (a demo review), "Retro Tunage" (a review of an older music tune), "The Lineup" (a list of the best new music releases), "Intro Watch" and a Link List. Moreover, there were sometimes interviews with people such as Nagz, Mephizto and Legalize, party reports, scene news and other articles. Regular writers for Static Line included Seven, Gekko and Tryhuk.
Static Line had a high quality and was quite interesting to read. As the editors were from the USA, the English was perfect.
Static Line had about 340 subscribers at its peak time. All issues can be downloaded at scene.org.
